Preliminary report on the works of the Polish Cliff Mission at Deir el-Bahari in the season: 22 September – 10 December 2015

The Cliff Mission, working according to the permission of the Permanent Committee of the SCA of the 10th Fe5, consisted of the following members: Prof. Dr Andrzej Niwinski, Egyptologist, the head of the Mission; Mr Kamil Zachert, Egyptologist, the deputy of the head of the Mission; Mr Waldemar Kubiczek, Engineer, Mr Wojciech Fraszczynski, Engineer, Mr Dariusz Flajszer, technician. The SCA Inspectors were: Mr El Azab Ragab Ahmed and Mr Mahmud Hassan el-Azab Ramadan.

According to the program of the works, the Cliff Mission has continued the cleaning of the slopes above the temple of Thutmosis III, and the removal of the old redim situated high in the cliffs (Fig. 1), which was potentially dangerous for the temples of Thutmosis III and of Mentuhotep Nebhepetra.
In the first days of the season, the installation of the debris chute device was accomplished in the new place, above the southermost part of the temple of Thutmosis III (Fig.2), which made possible the removal of the redim mentioned above. The removal works were continued during two months: in October and November 2015, finishing with the complete success (Fig. 3).

In the first week of December 2015, the upper part of the installation was removed, and the slope underneath was cleaned. There was not enough time to accomplish the cleaning of the whole slope above the temple of Thutmosis III (Fig. 4), and this work should be included, in the future, in the program of a new project proposed for this area.
